Regular events that you can plan for and build exciting itineraries around are ideal. One that springs to mind for us is Palio di Siena in Tuscany. This is an exhilarating horse race held twice during the summer, once in July and once in August, in the city of Siena.

It involves a four-day celebration including parades and festivities, culminating in a ten horse race. The horses and their riders sport the colours of the ten districts they represent and race in the Piazza del Campo, a medieval square. The tradition is centuries-old and has been documented since 1283.

Bartelings have perfected an itinerary that can be utilised for both dates during the summer. It of course takes your guests to the event itself, including access to a prime viewing area, but it also offers day trips to Chianti and Florence along the way.
